Centre for Judicial Studies , Dibrugarh University in collaboration with Department of Political Science , Dibrugarh University invites participants from bright young scholars, activists,legal and security personnel , individuals from diverse backgrounds with strong motivation and good academic credentials for in-depth debate and discussions in frontier areas of Human Rights in perspective of North East India. This national workshop will be sponsored by National Human Rights Commission , New Delhi.

Main objectives of the National Workshop :
This workshop will mainly focus on the traditional justice and legislative parts in order to protect and promote Human Rights against the violation in this region.
Other objectives are like below –
1. To promote the development of a culture of human rights.
2. To promote a common understanding, based on international instruments, of basic principles and methodologies for human rights education
3. To ensure a focus on human rights education at the national, regional and international levels
4. To provide a common collective framework for action by all relevant actors
5. To enhance partnership and cooperation at all levels
6. To evaluate and support existing human rights education programmes, to highlight successful practices, and to provide an incentive to continue and expand them and to develop new ones.
7. To promote the interdependence, interrelatedness, indivisibility and universality of human rights.
8. To foster respect for and appreciation of differences, and opposition to discrimination on the basis of race, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national, ethnic or social origin, physical or mental condition, sexual orientation and other bases
Topics to be covered in the said workshop are like below –
1. Understanding Human Rights in the Context of Northeast India: Issues and Challenges.
2. Institution and Legal Framework of Human Rights in India.
3. National Security versus Civil Liberties: The Question of AFSPA and Human Rights Movements.
4. Refugees and Non — Nationals: A Special Reference to North — East
Other Important Points of the Workshop :
1. Participants will be selected on the basis of first cum first basis.
2. Intakes of the Workshop is around 40-50 participants.
3. Registration Fees is Rs 700/- including breakfast and lunch. Accommodation may be provided prior to advance request.
4. Last date of apply for the participation into workshop is February 20, 2016
5. Duration of the workshop – 7 days
6. No of sessions during the entire 7 days of workshop : Eight Sessions and one valedictory session.
