The GREEN Olympiad is an annual written examination on environment initiated by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in 1999. The exam is conducted by Educating Youth for Sustainable Development Division of TERI and attracts participation from lakhs of school students across India and abroad.

The United Nations has proclaimed 2011 as the ‘International Year of Forests’. It is a unique opportunity to increase understanding of the vital role that ‘forest wealth’ plays in sustaining life on Earth. Keeping in line with this international declaration, the theme for GREEN Olympiad and TERRAQUIZ 2011 was “Forest Wealth around us”.

The examination is open ONLY for schools affiliated to recognized education boards and
educational trusts. Private coaching centers or other similar institutes are not eligible to
participate in this examination.
The examination is open to students from classes VIII to X. The examination can be taken
either in English or Hindi. Each school will be the center for its registered students.
Each school can nominate any number of students for this examination. However, participation
of a minimum number of 20 students is mandatory. Roll numbers will be notified on the
project website (www.teriin.org/olympiad) upon completion of the registration process.
Individual registrations from students will not be accepted.
Each participating student has to pay Rs 50/- as ‘registration fee’ to his/her school. The school has to pay the
total registration fee (Rs 50/- × number of participating students) through a bank draft drawn in favour of TERI,
payable at New Delhi. Cash/cheques will not be accepted.
The school can retain Rs. 100/- for every 20 registered participants; and for more than 500
students, a sum of Rs 2500/- can be retained by them (towards logistics and other expenditure
for holding this examination at their school premises).
Registration closes on 20 July 2013. Late entries will not be accepted.
The examination will be conducted on two different dates. Schools can select only one date for
the examination, and tick the same in the registration form. No request for change will be
accepted thereafter. Required examination material will be sent according to the date opted
by the school.
All participants will receive participation certificates endorsed by the Ministry of Environment
and Forests, Govt. of India
