National Seminar : Gauhati University

A national seminar is organized by Indian Council of Social Science Research, North Eastern Regional Centre (ICSSR-NERC) on Marginalized Communities in North East India with Special Reference to Scheduled Caste Population hosted by the Department of Sociology Gauhati University




The proposed seminar intends to deliberate upon these questions and knowledge gaps relating to
the impact of the policy of positive discrimination in India in general and North East India in
particular



The sub-themes of the seminar are:
SUB THEMES :



1. Debates and Issues on Positive Discrimination.
2. Positive Discrimination: Legal and Constitutional framework
3. Politics of Caste Identity
4. The Policy of Job Reservation in Public Sector and its Implementation
5. Representation of Scheduled Castes in government jobs, legislature and local bodies.
6. Caste, Ethnicity and Language in Assam
7. Caste and Electoral Politics in Assam
8. Caste and the Neo-Vaishnavite Movement in Assam
9. Modernization and the Movement from Primordial Identity to Performance-based
Identity
10. Role of Education in eliminating the caste hierarchy
11. Caste and Gender.



SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS :

Participants intending to present paper(s) are requested to submit abstract(s) by 20th September, 2014.


Participants shall be informed about the selection of abstracts on 30th September, 2014.
Full draft paper should be submitted by 20th October, 2014.
